Week 30:   November 20 – 26

Total for week = £3.55 /241g

Just a sprinkling of salad leaves, stir fry greens and a few herbs to brighten up winter cooking this week. The Vietnamese coriander was dug up and moved inside for winter.

Week 29:   November 13 – 19

The North West facing balcony is feeling dark and cold, and only gets an hour or so sun each day. The crops are still growing – but only just. I’m harvesting the salads lightly to try and eke out a supply for as much of winter as possible.

The salads on the shelves above the back door are growing painfully slowly – the light is particulalry low here. In the brighter spot at the front of the balcony, the mooli and black cabbages in the wooden boxes are doing better.

Week 28:   November 6 – 12

We are away and nothing is harvested for the first time since 1 May this year.

Week 27:   October 30 – November 5

Total for week = £9.84 /419g

The last of the tomatoes picked on 1st November, bringing the tomato harvest to over 28kg for the year. I picked and froze a batch of Vietnamese coriander as this is a tender plant that will not survive the frosts.

Impressively, the perennial basil is still flowering – the flowers have a pleasant aniseed taste and are brightening up our salads.
